Why Do I Write This Stuff?

“If the desire to write is not accompanied by actual writing, then the desire is not to write.”

                                                                                                       Hugh Prather

I developed a pretty good writing discipline when I was writing monologue jokes for Jay Leno.  And I learned it was better to write badly than not write at all.

I’ve been trying to figure out why I’ve been writing this stuff down. I think some of it is my grandkids. Hopefully ,some of these stories will give them a bit more insight into what I was like after I’m  gone. And I hope they will be entertained by some of these stories that involved their Granddaddy. Reaching your mid sixties gives you that kind of perspective.

And I guess I have a strong desire to put on paper the stories I have been telling for a while now.  I certainly haven’t lived an extra-ordinary life, but it seems that some of the things I have done (that I can make public) have entertained people when I tell them. I consider myself a writer (no - I am one)so why not write them down?

I really don’t expect this to be any kind of self help book, although I hope some of the insights from my experiences and screw ups along the way gives people hope, or even a desire to be better.  Most of all, I hope they entertain you, make you laugh, and make you think.  Here we go.
